Dennis E. Elias, CFP®, CLU®

Senior Financial Planning Associate

Born and raised in the D.C. metro area, I am proud to call myself a Washingtonian. My passion for D.C. and the state of Virginia played a big role in my enrollment in the Certified Financial Planning® program at Virginia Tech. Not only was the program in my home state, but it also focused on a client-centered approach to financial advising that truly exemplified what I was looking for in a professional career.

Growing up, my parents actively taught me to establish good money habits at a young age and understand the concept of money management. After joining my mom for a meeting with a broker, I knew that I wanted to one day work in the financial industry. Through the Certified Financial Planning® program at Virginia Tech, I developed a passion for helping people plan for retirement, as the idea of devising plans to help people achieve important life goals seemed very rewarding. After graduating with a B.S. in Finance in 2015, I joined AFS, excited to put the lessons I learned through the Virginia Tech program into action. Fast forward five years, and I am now proud to say I am officially a full-time advisor!

I prioritize staying up-to-date on the current world and financial news, regularly reading Bloomberg Newsweek and the Flipboard news app. I am also an active participant in the Financial Planning Association which has allowed me the opportunity to attend several valuable events to further my financial literacy. Continual improvement throughout one’s career is something that I find to be truly invaluable to our clients, our firm, and myself.

Outside the office, I am passionate about staying active through regular visits to the gym and improving my biking skills. Along with exercise, I enjoy spending time with those close to me, reading, and cooking to round out my life and keep me centered. As a local product, supporting all of my hometown teams and community plays a large role in my life, and I look forward to using my professional knowledge to continue to help my community in the future.
